Copyright Law explained by Disney Characters!

An amusing short film made up of ye old 'cut and paste' routine using Disney film characters to explain Copyright Law and related concepts such as 'fair use' and 'public domain'.
It's a great little film even though it's a little hard to catch what they're saying at times but it's all worth the viewing.

Misbehaving Badly

Is it just me or am I detecting some outstanding bad behaviour involving the Safari browser?

The damned thing seems to be getting very out of date very, very quickly. I've noticed too many sites that are not behaving as they should be in Safari, including my website. Indeed, if I want to upload this blog I have to use Firefox instead of Safari as Safari just doesn't know what to do.
Let's hope they upgrade it soon or just get rid of it.

This Woman Saved My Bacon!

Janine Warner is my hero!
She's really saved my bacon as far as missing important classes involving the construction of web design in Dreamweaver 8.
This DVD tutorial from Total Training is very informative and she is the sweetest thing too. Easy to follow, easy to understand, it makes the art of controlling Dreamweaver 8 simply amazing! I highly recommend it to anyone struggling with their projects. I bought my copy from Amazon UK and I think it's a grand investment.

A List Apart

I'm absolutely freaking about my work schedule.
I really haven't grasped the idea of CSS at all. However, I've found this site A List Apart which is a rather fantastic site dedicated to web designers. Hopefully it will help me with my super fast learning I need to do.

My Easter Ancestory

Well, seeing as it's Easter time I thought I'd do a little research into my namesake. St Andrew was a dude! Not only was he one of the first disciples but he traveled a lot and healed the sick, started religions and built cathedrals. Those who resisted his teachings became possessed and gnawed at their bodies until Andrew healed them.

He was then crucified onto an X shaped cross (he was tied, not nailed) and left to die upside down looking at the heavens. Cool!

Other findings, the X shaped cross is used in both the Scottish and British flags and he is the patron Saint of Scotland.

How very cool!

Yay! My Membership has arrived!

I am now an official member of the grooviest club on US cable TV, the Ghoul A Go-Go club! Yes sir, I received my membership card, my membership certificate signed by Vlad and Creighton but sadly not the Invisible Man (well, maybe his signature is invisible!).
I also bought the DVD which holds three of the programmes which are great. Groovy little kids doing the Watusi to a live Rock n Roll band, Creighton showing us his films, skeletons doing skits. It's fabulous.

So, whatta you think? This idea is to be my front page of my website with the theme carrying on throughout for consistency.
The idea, sadly isn't totally original. I thought the idea up last night and then I googled. What came about were two similar ideas and so I've taken the two and merged them together to make this page.

Sleep Deprivation From Over Thinking!

I think this whole website construction business has finally hit me and hit me hard. My mind was reeling last night with the possibilities and ideas for my site. Sleep this day has passed me by.
And during this deprivation I of course trawled the net. I've discovered this website from Sonic Manipulator and Artist, Andrew Liles whom I had the great pleasure in meeting after he performed with Nurse With Wound on Saturday night.
I took one look at his front page and I felt good. It's basically the same page structure as I want for my website and also, thanks to great imagination, the site is beautiful in all it's Victorian splendour. Navigation is easy and the whole site is a pleasure to discover.

Now to get on with my own work.......

Nurse With Wound

Whales,Weebles and Wailings.
I went to see the band Nurse With Wound at the QEH on Saturday evening. The moon was eclipsing whilst we sat and listened to some beautiful and ethereal sounds. The set comprised a few different soundscapes ending with my favourite - Salt Marie Celeste, loosely based on the abandoned ship, the Marie Celeste. Lot's of creaking wood and washing waves complete with a toy whale used as a sound device.
The stunning background video made by Freida Abtan provided a welcome visual to accompany the sounds. I'd love to know how she made the vid as it was extreme and seemed so ghostly.
Good for the ears, good for the eyes. A damned good gig and one to keep ones mind racing for future ideas involving school.

What a website!
Not only are they a fantastic new outfit stemming forth from the Bad Seeds, Nick Cave's new quartet throbs with brilliance.
Today was the opening of their new website and it's a great site that defies the norm. The pages are one dimensional which sounds a bit stupid but it's done to great effect. You have to expand the page and then move the page around to see the content. It's great fun and the site makes you want to explore. And explore you do, finding slightly hidden gems as a short film about the band, 3 great videos and a podcast to subscribe to too.
Go visit, enjoy the site and enjoy the music even more. If you're a little put off by hairy faced men and monkeys - you're not gonna get them here!

Todays session in class was most invigorating.
Lot's of feedback - good and bad, but it really opens up your eyes and your brain.
After todays class I was drawn straight to this site (which is in my fav's sidebar). I'm drawn to this site as it's a simple yet effective layout but remains stylish throughout. The navigation is superb and is easy to find your way around no matter where in the site you are.
It's certainly given me ideas. :-)

Serial Killer Art

I love getting post in the morning!
This morning I received my latest aquisition, two oil paintings from the Serial Killer, John Wayne Gacy. Convicted of killing 33 (and probably more) young boys and burying them under his house. This guy used to dress as a clown and hire himself out to the community as a party trick - Pogo the clown.
Fantastic paintings, I'm really pleased. I've been after a couple of his artworks for so many years and now I have not one, but two!
Heh, heh, heh.
This makes up for the tragedy of the last few weeks.
Life rolls on again, but this time with a kick in it's high heels.

The Loss Of Intelligence?

This is just the pits.
I've lost everything (computer death) and you don't realise how much you've actually lost until you need it. I've lost all of my bookmarks (I've yet to get used to Delicious) and so trying to find suitable sites to show off for my mock up of my web page leaves me to make a last minute dash to see what I can find. Bah, humbug!
Still, I've done a couple of rough sketches of what I'd like to achieve. Simple is simple but hey, that's why I'm at school!
I've done the sketches for the page layout and the site structure, showing how all six pages are able to link together.
I plan on using icons for the home page to guide you where you wish to go. I'm going to incorporate my learnings from earlier this year and take photo's of objects around my flat and transmogrigfy them into icons. Yummy!
I've lost my copy of Photoshop and I can't load any other copy onto my stupid, damned, useless, dead computer! Lordy, I can't even upload ilife 5, for fucks sake!
If there was a prize for computer assasinations, I would probably win!

Dead Cats, Dead Macs.

Good Lord! Could it get any worse?
My mac died a few days ago, died beyond retrieval. I've spent the last 3 days resetting over and over again. I've finally got it up and running again but I've lost everything that I had.
So, whilst rummaging around the net to renew my fabulous icon collection I stumbled on this website, Shapeshifter which changes the look of your mac. I've downloaded it and I've been playing and it's a good idea. You get 15 days to play before you have to fork out £20.00 or whatever to pay for it and that's good as I can't seem to find a suitable application that actually looks good!
Still plummeting the net for forgotten links etc. I found this wonderful site where the chap puts souviners into perspective. Quite amusing, a lot of misses but the hits are damn fine.
Still working on my upcoming website which is due very, very soon. Now that I've got most of my applications back apart from photoshop (goddamnit) I can now start getting it done.
